Key stakeholders

The QCT registers teachers for Queensland schools and accredits the state's pre-service teacher education programs. We value quality teaching and child safety. We work with the teaching profession and other key stakeholders to help ensure education in Queensland schools is provided by teachers who meet Australian professional standards and are ethical in their dealings with students.

Established in 1889, the QTU has chalked up over a century of achievement in helping teachers throughout Queensland, and is now the voice of more than 48,000 teachers in the Queensland Government's primary schools, secondary schools, special schools, senior colleges, TAFE colleges and other educational facilities. The list of vital services which the Union provides for its members includes:

  • representation and advocacy on professional issues

  • a national voice through the Australian Education Union

IEUA-QNT is an organising union which works to improve the lives of more than 17,000 members and associates who are working, preparing for employment, or have worked in the non-government education sector in Queensland and the Northern Territory. Our members have many roles and specialisations including:

  • Teachers  

  • School Officers and services staff (including for example: school secretaries, teacher aides, laboratory assistants and library aides )

  • ELICOS teachers

  • Principals (without the autonomous right to hire or dismiss staff)

  • Kindergarten and Preschool Teachers and Assistants

  • Teachers and Instructors in Business Colleges

  • Teachers and Instructors in any private enterprise educational institution

  • Services Staff (including grounds people, gardeners & tuckshop convenors, some exceptions apply)

  • Associate Members (retired members and undergraduate students)
