Does the government provide a rebate on private health insurance?
To make private health insurance more affordable, the Australian Government provides a rebate on private health insurance premiums. The rebate applies to anyone eligible for Medicare benefits and depends on both your household income and age.
There are two ways to receive your rebate:
As a reduction in your health insurance premium for the financial year. To enable us to apply the rebate to your policy, you need to send us a completed Rebate Application form.
As a rebate claimed annually in your individual income tax return.
There are three rebate tiers which are based on the amount of money you and your family earns. These tiers determine how much of a rebate you will receive to assist you to pay your premiums.

The income threshold levels for families are also subject to single parents and couples (including de facto couples). For families with children, the thersholds are increased by $1,500 for each dependent child after the first.
