John Battams

John Battams was appointed to the Board as the nominee director of the Queensland Teachers’ Union (QTU) in 2011 and elected by members in 2013. He was appointed as Chair of the Board in November 2015.

John is a former President of the Queensland Council of Unions (QCU) where he worked with Queensland unions representing workers on industrial, political and social justice issues. He is currently the President of the Australian Labor Party – Queensland Branch. John is also a director of QIC Limited and several companies in the Labor Holdings group. He held the position of General Secretary of the Queensland Teachers’ Union from 1990 to 2011.

Terry Burke has been an elected Director since 1996. He is the General Secretary of the Queensland Independent Education Union, Chair of the Queensland Independent Education and Care Superannuation Trust (QIEC Super) as well as a director of The Private Capital Group, TIF International 1 Pty Ltd and Vice President of the Queensland Council of Unions. Terry has an extensive background in organisational development and administration, risk assessment and management, strategic and policy development. In his teaching career, he worked in Catholic schools in Toowoomba and Redcliffe and held various administrative positions.

Stewart Jones

Stewart Jones has been an elected Director of TUH since 2006 and was a member of the Audit and Risk Committee until he was appointed to the Business, Finance and Marketing Committee in January 2016 (which later changed to the Product Pricing and Finance committee in December 2016). Stewart has worked in schools for over 25 years and much of this time has been as a classroom teacher. Stewart has taught in rural and regional communities within Queensland and believes that teaching is in his blood. Stewart has supported the profession of teaching through his work with TUH and his active role within the Queensland Teachers' Union (QTU) that includes over 12 years of service on the QTU Executive.

Michael Cottier

Michael Cottier was appointed director in November 2015. He is a senior manager and company director whose experience includes finance, investment and risk-related positions at several large Queensland companies. He presently sits on the boards of Stadiums Queensland, Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia and Metro Arts. He is also a Director, Responsible Superannuation Entity Boards at BT Financial Group.

Peta Irvine

Peta Irvine was appointed director in November 2015 and elected for a three-year term in November 2016. Her experience covers a wide range of industries and organisations, with a strong focus on member-based organisations. She is a non-executive director at International House College.

Rebecca Sisson

Rebecca was appointed a director in January 2017 and elected for a three-year term in November 2017. Rebecca is an Assistant Secretary of the Queensland Independent Education Union and Executive Member of the Queensland Council of Unions. During her twelve years at the Queensland Independent Education Union, Rebecca has developed extensive experience in areas of data management and analysis, database development as well as member engagement.

Leah was appointed to director in March 2019 to fill a casual vacancy. Leah has worked in a range of primary and secondary schools, in metropolitan, rural and remote communities, before her appointment as assistant secretary at the Queensland Teachers’ Union. Leah has fulfilled the roles of Women’s Officer at the QTU, Strategy and Policy Officer at the Queensland Council of Unions, and is currently Research Officer – Professional Issues. During her 25 years of working for the union movement, she has an extensive history of providing timely advice, assistance and advocacy to QTU members as well as her strong representation of member views in a variety of education forums. Leah is highly respected by key education stakeholders such as the Queensland College of Teachers, the Department of Education and the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority. Her experience as corporate director on the ACCM board, and the management committees of QWWS and BRQ, as well as regularly acting in a senior officer roles at the QTU, has provided her with a wealth of experience in corporate governance, strategic planning,  and enhanced her skills in negotiation and advocacy. She greatly values the opportunity to represent QTU members on the board of TUH.

Anne Fuchs

Anne was appointed to director in March 2019. She has worked across the financial services sector for over 20 years in both ‘for profit’ and ‘profit for member’ organisations. She is currently the Head of Advice and Retirement at Sunsuper, the fourth largest superannuation fund in Australia with over 1.4m members. Anne is also the Treasurer of the Australian Labor Party – Queensland Branch and is a director of several companies in the Labor Holdings group. She has extensive experience in member engagement, customer growth and retention strategies, investments and financial advice and corporate governance.

Mark was appointed a director in March 2019 to fill the Queensland Teachers’ Union position on the board. Mark worked for twenty-two years as a teacher and Head of Department in the State Schooling system across the State of Queensland. Whilst teaching, he lead and was a member of various QTU committees including President of Brisbane South Area Council, Delegate to National Australian Educators Union conferences, Legal committee, Chair of Salaries and Industrial Conditions Committee and other various subcommittees. From this, Mark went on to work for the Queensland Teachers’ Union as Assistant Secretary – Services, Legal.
